Sarah Silverman and Friends
…was pretty awesome. We came early and got front row seats, which meant that the comedians, including Sarah Silverman, were constantly staring in our direction. They were probably just trying to remember their jokes, but I’m going to go with “staring into my soul.” Point is: I’m never washing my eyes again.
Two cool things:
1. Sarah began her set by admitting she really had no good material for the night, which led to her doing a little bit of audience interaction. Sean and I were sitting in the front row, so we were prime fodder. The conversation went a little like this:
Sarah Silverman: So what’s up with you guys, are you related or something?
Me: We don’t know.
Sarah Silverman: What do you mean you don’t- for the rest of the people who can’t see what’s going here, I’m talking to these two similarly sized… Asian… looking…
(Laughter from audience)
SS: I don’t know what the correct term for them is anymore, Asians… Is it “Little People”?
Me: Engineers.*
SS: Oh, that’s cute. But I hate that stereotype that all Asians are smart, because I’ve met some Asians who are total dumbasses. No but really, was that a joke? like you’re both Asian and you don’t know if you’re related somehow or…
Me: (true story here) We’ve actually traced back the family tree and there’s a chance we’re distantly related.
SS: Oh wow. So it’s like a total coincidence I asked you guys that…
And then she goes into a bit about how she didn’t know if we were gay lovers and how that would be weird since we might be related but then actually that’s not that weird and stuff…
2. Sarah Silverman wears PF Flyers.
Sarah Silverman definitely had the funniest set of the night, even if she came unprepared. Surprise guest Drunk Gary Shandling was cool too, except I didn’t really know who he was, just that he was from the older set and that I knew I was supposed to be in awe.
*This got a couple of laughs, but I thought it was too obvious… Looking back I might have said something like “Ninja-American” or “Charlie”. Any better? I don’t know.
